FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSIMG 8733

Where are you located?

We are a foster based rescue. Meaning we do not have a kennel facility to house our dogs. We have foster homes all over the states of NC and SC (with hopes to expand into other states in the Southeast). After rescue we may have the option to provide a short stay at a veterinarian or boarding facility until  they are off to a foster home! Our foster homes make sure they are made comfortable and can receive the best care possible until they find their forever homes.

How can I see your dogs?

If you are interested in a specific dog, follow the Paypal instructions for your application fee and fill out an application online. Our adoption coordinator will review the application, connect with you and follow the steps below to confirm which applicants are a good match for the foster dog.

We also encourage you to get your application in and indicate what you are looking for in a new family member so that when we rescue a dog that fits your family dynamic, you are already approved and waiting for him/her to find their way to your forever home!

What is the adoption process?

  1. Pay the application fee and fill out an adoption application online.
  2. The adoption coordinator will connect with you to chat and explain next steps and answer any questions that you may have about our process.
  3. We will contact your personal references and your vet for a reference check, verifying all present pets are up to date.
  4. A (virtual) home visit will be completed in order to match the right dog to the right home.
  5. We will encourage the foster family to connect with you to discuss the particulars of the routine/behaviors and possible pitfalls of your potential pup.
  6. An adoption contract, with applicable addendum and agreements, is signed and adoption fee collected.

Can I read the application process before I make the decision whether to adopt?

Yes, please click on the links on our site to review the adoption specifications and information we request to ensure we are providing our rescue pups with the best of forever homes.

How can I help?

We are always in need of assistance, and there are many ways you can help!

Donations:  We are a nonprofit organization and can always use monetary donations. Please contact us with your ideas or see our Ways to Give page for various methods. You could also help by buying something off our our Amazon Wishlist.  Every little bit helps!!!

Fostering:  We can only save lives if we have foster homes! Please consider opening your home and heart to a dog dying for a spot! BTRTOC covers all costs for vetting and any/all medical needs. You just need to give them some yummy grub, space, love and time.

Volunteering:  If you can't foster but want to help, we can certainly use your help! Just some of the needs we have are:

  • Fundraising Coordinator
  • Home visit volunteers
  • Fundraiser Hosts
  • Transporter to help our freedom rides or move dogs from boarding to events, foster homes, and vets
  • Social media marketing
  • Amazon Smile
These helpful roles can be done when you have the time and you can commit to only those that fit your schedule. Please consider taking some time out to help!

Where do your dogs come from?

We rescue most of our dogs from local shelter across the area, and some further, who find themselves unfortunate enough to be on the shelters "urgent" list . We also welcome current owners who are experiencing the need to surrender their pet to reach out to us. We work very hard to make sure that our rescued pups go to the very best fit for a long, happy, comfortable life!

So, where does the money go that BTRTOC collects from adoption fees?

BTRTOC is a 100% volunteer run and donation based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is to help displaced dogs from shelters, owners who need our assistance for their pup, unfortunate surrender situations, including rescuing dogs from life threatening circumstances. Most dogs vetting and care cost considerably more then the adoption fee. In some cases, healthy young dogs that are already vaccinated and spayed/neutered will come into rescue. In cases like this their adoption fee is able to assist us in caring for other rescues that may be fighting for their lives or require exstensive time and training. When you adopt from BTRTOC you can feel good that your adoption fee is helping other Boston's in need! Your new family member will come to you happy and as healthy as we can make them, with as much knowledge as we have about him. We promise that you will have our support for the life of your BTRTOC rescue pup!

Why should I rescue?

It goes without saying that when you adopt a rescue pet, you’re saving a life—but you’re actually saving more than one. By adopting, you’re helping make space for another animal in need and helping to give them the opportunity to become beloved pets.  Some of our pups may not have had a great start but we make sure they have a wonderful forever. You can be proud that you helped a pup get the second chance they deserve! AND...you will have a lifelong best friend that will never judge you for eating that extra slice of pizza.....as long as you share?
